Extrusion

The mechanically propelled extrusion method of application has been used extensively throughout Ireland for many years now. In fact in 1986 Kelly Bros (Roadlines) Ltd were the first to introduce this type of application into the Irish market.

The extruded method is very similar to the screed process in so far as a pre-selected thickness of material is applied to the road through a type of extruding mould. Glass beads are simultaneously applied to the surface of the molten line.

As this method off application is faster than the manual screed, additional traffic control over and above the normal for screed or spray application may be required to prevent premature trafficking on freshly laid markings.

Since its introduction in 1986 this method of application has been found to be very satisfactory and has greatly contributed to the overall and improved quality of delineation of Irish roads.

Typical markings created using the extrusion process are lines of 100mm – 250mm width and 2mm - 4.25mm in thickness. Rib lines are also created using the extrusion process.

All the equipment used in the Extrusion application are custom built in house by Kelly Bros (Roadlines) Ltd for our operatives to deliver optimum precision while road marking.
